World Book Day at the Rise

On Thursday 7 March, we joined schools across the country to celebrate World Book Day at The Rise School. We love stories at The Rise, so this is always a highlight of the school year. Find out about all the fun things we got up on the day...

Amongst our usual school day we held a variety of fun book themes activities that pupils and staff could both get involved in, all while wearing our costumes!

Everyone got involved in our photo competition where we wanted pupils and staff to catch our pets reading! Even our school guinea pigs -Ginger and Spice got involved.

We held a 'Shelfie' quiz – pupils had to try and work out which staff member’s book shelf it might be. This was a great work out of our inference skills too.

There was also yhe option to dress up after lunch – we had a few Harry Potter's and Where’s Wally's, but Jennifer was the owl Hedwig! Also Lee was a pretty impressive Gangsta Granny!

The main event was a special reading “Golden Time” during period six. Mark carefully picked and organised a book for each pupil from a selection published especially for World Book Day. Pupils went to different classrooms and enjoyed reading the book on their own or as a group.

It was amazing to see the whole school reading at the same time and how well our pupils coped with being in bigger groups than normal and mixing with different pupils.
